PUY DU FOUPouzauges
The Castle and its medieval Keep, built in the 11th century, offer an exceptional 360° panoramic view of the town and the verdant landscapes of the surrounding countryside.
The labyrinthine town, with its picturesque and winding alleyways, offers an immersive experience thanks to audio QR codes linked to the superb mosaics created by the artist Sophie Ribaud.
Lake of Hope is Pouzauges' main green space and recreational area. Covering 5 hectares, you can walk around its entire perimeter on a 1.2 km footpath. Swimming is permitted.
The Mills of Terrier Marteau
Originally built in the 18th and 19th centuries, they offer exceptional panoramic views of Pouzauges. During guided tours, you can discover the history of the site and the mill, and follow the transformation of wheat into flour in the still-functioning mill. The Vendée brioche is baked in a traditional wood-fired oven.
The Castle of St Mesmin
Located 10 minutes from La Libaudière, on the border of the Vendée and Deux-Sèvres departments, this castle is an authentic 14th-century medieval fortress renowned for its live historical reenactments. During peak season, actors in period costume bring the castle to life, recreating daily life in the Middle Ages through interactive workshops.
The Réaumur Science Manor
Located 10 minutes from our estate, this manor house is the former home of René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur, one of the greatest scientists and naturalists of the 18th century.
Now transformed into an interactive and sensory museum, it offers a playful immersion into the heart of science and the Age of Enlightenment.
The Oriental Park of Maulévrier
Located 30 minutes from our estate, this park is the largest Japanese garden in Europe!
It was designed in the 20th century by the renowned Orientalist architect Alexandre Marcel.
This park is home to nearly 400 plant species, from azaleas and camellias to Japanese maples.
The richness of this place lies not only in its botany but also in its architecture. The park is punctuated by traditional red bridges, lanterns, a pagoda, and Khmer and Japanese structures inspired by the 1900 Paris Universal Exposition.
The Marais Poitevin
The Marais Poitevin, nicknamed the Green Venice, is one of the most beautiful wetlands in Europe, stretching between the Vendée, Deux-Sèvres, and Charente-Maritime departments.
From our guesthouse in Pouzauges, extend your exploration of the Vendée and discover the Marais Poitevin during your excursions.
This unique regional natural park offers a labyrinth of shaded canals, picturesque villages, and unspoiled landscapes, ideal for a nature getaway by boat or bicycle.
Cycling in the Vendée
The Vendée is one of France's leading cycling destinations, boasting a network of 1,800 km of cycle paths. The Vendée by bike route is a major 700 km loop divided into 20 stages.
It crosses the Pays de Pouzauges region, offering the chance to discover the bocage countryside along quiet roads and through rolling landscapes. Several routes pass through Pouzauges, notably those heading towards La Châtaigneraie, Réaumur, or Puy du Fou.
A wonderful way to explore the Vendée at your own pace, combining heritage and nature, with a more hilly and challenging landscape than the coastline.
